Meth & Fentanyl Cleanup and Decontamination Technician

The 24-hour operations-level training is designed for workers who may participate in drug use clean-up activities, including the clean-up of methamphetamine or fentanyl residue in residential structures.

Description

This 24-hour initial Training Class provides a general overview of the processes and procedures for cleaning and decontaminating residential structures contaminated with the residues associated with methamphetamine or fentanyl usage. This class IS NOT intended for personnel that will be involved in the testing or decontamination of clandestine drug labs/meth production facilities.

Attendees will receive classroom and practical instruction on the steps necessary so safely clean meth & fentanyl residue. Safe work practices, record keeping, personal protective equipment, and clean-up procedures are examined in detail. This class includes hands-on exercises.

This course is designed to meet the requirements for 24-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training according to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3). This includes workers who will be working on hazardous waste sites but will only be performing specific tasks that are unlikely to expose them to hazards over permissible exposure limits or published exposure limits.

This course is also intended for workers who regularly work on sites that have been monitored and fully characterized, where hazard exposures are under permissible exposure limits and published exposure limits, respirators are not necessary and there is no health hazard or the possibility of an emergency.

An additional 16 hours of hands-on instruction and site-specific training should be received by any individuals who will potentially be exposed to hazards on hazardous sites or will actively participate in hazardous materials clean-up operations.
